This video is launched by the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) to promote the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) and the Global Experiment on Water at the IYC opening event in Paris. The video features students in Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia engaging in the Global Experiment on Water, which covers intriguing chemical concepts, including acidity, salinity, filtration, and water purification.
Professors Nick Hud, from Georgia Tech, and David Lynn, from Emory, developed experiments that show high school kids how to create adenine, one of the chemicals that form DNA and RNA, and how to extract it from a strawberry. Students from Rivewood International Charter School and Roswell High School took part in the lessons, which aim to show them how the chemistry of life may be starting up right now in a solar system near you.
